Long seen as a niche hobby for nerds locked away in dark rooms, they have gone on to be one of the biggest mainstream hobbies in the world. There are a lot of reasons for this, but one of the biggest ones is that gamers are always looking for new challenges. This means that new games are constantly created. Whether it is trying out a new concept or retracing steps from before with a new slant, as long as players want something new to play, there will be new games made and released.
Thisalso applies to mobile gaming. App stores are overflowing with a huge number of games and Netflix is even looking at creating a mobile game streaming service. There just isn’t enough time in the world to play all the games that exist.
Movies and TV shows make too much money
A successful movie or TV show can sometimes be a way to print money. Everything from Marvel movies to anime brings in huge revenue for production companies. This means that regardless of whether people actively want something new to watch, it will still be created. This doesn’t just apply to new properties either. While a new property can sometimes go on to be a huge hit, it’s not guaranteed. Thisis why older properties often get a reboot. They are an established name and are more likely to bring in the viewers and therefore bring in the revenue.
A great example of this is Scream. There are lots of great horror movies released each year and Scream hadn’t had a quality release for a long time. This made it the perfect time to bring back the franchise. Audiences would be nostalgic for it, and it would therefore be likely to make money, even if the quality of the movie wasn’t good. This doesn’t mean that the producers are looking to make a poor movie, because if it is a success, then it means further sequels can follow and the franchise is reborn. This chase to make money is why we get such a constant stream of new media to consume.
