T-Minus 1 Hour Prior To Sleeping

Devices should be shut down for the evening. People don’t realize the consequences on many levels of blue light emitted from all the screens that surround them. Blue light is a major bedtime disruption. That brightness has an impact on your body on many different levels, causing your body to stay awake.

To do lists are essential, but they need to be out of sight and out of mind when you go to sleep. That includes last minute work emails, texts and whatever else you feel you have to get done now instead of waiting another day. It’s time to shut down and relax. Get some sleep!

A cooler temperature is going to do you good. Tweak the thermostat just a tad, and your body will respond accordingly. Your bedroom environment not only needs to be cool but also dark. Think of it as your own personal bat cave. A cave is cool, a cave is dark, and in your cave, you’re going to get great beauty sleep.

If necessary, crack a window if the night breeze helps, as long as any outdoor sounds don’t become a disruption. Fresh air is always good, but it has to fit the situation.

Do you have a nightcap habit before bed? A glass of wine or a bourbon nightcap isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Don’t buy into that old adage of a shot of whiskey before bed. Medically speaking, that is nonsense. In fact, alcohol can fragment sleep and impact your sleep quality in other ways as well.

It is also a good idea to refrain from too many liquids in general ahead of going to bed. Naturally, if you need a drink, hydrate yourself. Just remember, those trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night are going to find you having to drift off to sleep over again.

Think of what you feel are relaxing activities. Read, put on some tunes, whatever you have to do to feel comfortable and wind down. Remember that aggravating is activating, and you want to let all the stresses of the day go.
